Historical Preservation Project
A plan is underway to develop an historical exhibition of the first hundred years of Boulder High School; as State Preparatory School 1875-1935, and as Boulder High School 1935-1976. This permanent exhibition will be erected at Boulder High School in the front lobby and the hallway toward the gymnasium to the south.
A core planning group including Principal James Hill, Assistant Principal Melissa Warfield, former Principal Jean Bonelli, former teacher and administrator Bitsy Carlson, and retiring teacher Monique Guidry has met to frame a concept plan. The group has consulted with History Colorado concerning a grant and with Photo Craft Imaging about a design and cost of
photo murals and signage.
History Colorado grants provide matching funds for such projects, so local fundraising is needed to preserve the history of the building and its artifacts which have important significance for Colorado and the Boulder community.
Phase I is to erect large photographic murals with interpretive signage as well as some remodeling of the lobby area to better display artifacts. During the school year, students will begin to understand the legacy of the school as they are introduced to images of students and activities from the past. The displays will continue to grow as money becomes available to add to the exhibition. For more information about this project, please see the Daily Camera Article.
Please join in this effort to save and permanently display the history of the first public high school in Colorado. If you have questions or can help provide historical photos, stories, or artifacts such as old sports uniforms, please contact Jean Bonelli at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Donations may be sent to the following. Any amount is gratefully appreciated. You can also make an online credit card donation (through Revtrak). Additionally a new website, Mighty Cause, has been setup to help with fundraising.
