Family and Consumer Science is committed to the standard of excellence and to the teaching of life skills that allow young adults to successfully negotiate independent living and interpersonal relationships and to acquire practical workplace skill sets. All classes in Family and Consumer Science are aligned with the vocational organization Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
Catering broadens understanding of food by encompassing diet, nutrition, and food preparation in a lab setting. It includes hands-on instruction, cooperative activities, projects, and speakers. Pro Start classes provide an opportunity for competition cooking. Living on Your Own (LOYO) classes offer seniors information and practice for real-life experiences. This LOYO is a full-year course and will take care of the Health credit needed to meet BVSD graduation requirements.
