National Honor Society

What Is NHS?

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginnings in 1921.

Criteria for Entry into NHS

Sophomores and Juniors

• Students must have a minimum 3.75 unweighted GPA or 4.0 weighted GPA.

• Students should have at least 20 hours of community service that was completed prior to applying.

• Students must provide proof of leadership roles in the classroom, school and/or community. 

• The NHS Application must be completed and submitted by Friday, March 15th. 

National Honor Society - Selection Process

Students will be considered as candidates for the National Honor Society if they meet the necessary requirements. High school students who exhibit excellence in scholarship, character, leadership, and service to their school and community are recognized with membership into this prestigious society.

To be eligible for membership, the candidates must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a rising junior or a rising senior.
2. Have a minimum 3.75 unweighted GPA, or 4.0 weighted GPA.
3. Be in attendance at Boulder High for at least one semester.
4. In addition to the minimum grade point average, the following are also required:
Evidence of school and/or community leadership.
Evidence of active participation in school and/or community service.
5. Once you've met all of the academic requirements you may apply to the Boulder High School Chapter of the National Honor Society by filling out the online candidate form during the application window (3/1-3/15).
6. The NHS Selection Committee, by majority vote, decides on the selection or non-selection of a student.

Other Requirements for NHS Membership

1. Annual dues of $25 are due at 1st meeting.
2. Regular attendance required at monthly meetings & Induction. Failure to attend meetings is serious and could result in probation and/or removal from NHS.
3. Boulder High Chapter community service is 30 hours of service to Boulder High each semester. This can be accomplished several ways, including the following

(a) tutoring Boulder High students at Boulder High through boulderhightutoring.com or
(b) being a teaching assistant for at least one semester (this will cover your entire year of community service).
